Penn Wharton China Summit hears updates on Hong Kong
The Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in New York, Maisie Ho, spoke at the 2025 Penn Wharton China Summit, organized by the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania on March 29, where she shared the latest developments and exciting opportunities in Hong Kong with a dynamic audience of students, industry leaders, and scholars.
She highlighted Hong Kong’s dynamic economy, pointing out that Hong Kong remains the world’s freest economy, ranking 1st in investment environment and 3rd for emerging startups, adding that the city was a thriving hub for global talent. Beyond its well-established strengths in finance, trade, and legal services, Hong Kong is also leading the charge in innovation and technology, with strong government support for FinTech, blockchain, Web3, and AI. What truly sets Hong Kong apart is its unique position as the only place in the world with both global and China advantages, making it an ideal gateway and bridge between the East and West for investment, entrepreneurship, and collaboration.
The Penn Wharton China Summit is an exceptional platform for fostering dialogue on China’s evolving role in the global landscape. This year’s theme, “Defining the Future: A Visionary Dialogue”, brought together inspiring minds, including Professor Tony Chan, former President of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and King Abdullah University of Science and Technology in Saudi Arabia and a world-renowned mathematician and academic born and raised in Hong Kong; and Jian Kang, Managing Partner of IEF Partners.
