Promoting exchanges and collaboration in Pittsburgh


New York, March 4, 2020 - With both Hong Kong and Pittsburgh at the forefront of global innovation, both cities could collaborate in facilitating more exchanges and partnerships in innovation & technology in the future, said Director of HKETONY Joanne Chu when she called on County Executive of Allegheny County Rich Fitzgerald during her duty visit to The Steel City (Mar 3-4). She also updated him on the latest developments of Hong Kong including the new opportunities offered for US companies under the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area development.

During the meeting with the President of Pittsburgh Regional Alliance (PRA) Mark Thomas and Senior Director – Business Investment of PRA Michael Henderson, Ms Chu highlighted the unique advantages of Hong Kong under the "One Country, Two Systems" framework as well as efforts of Hong Kong SAR Government in promoting the I&T development in the Greater Bay Area and encouraged companies in the region to make use of Hong Kong to develop their businesses in Asia.

In Pittsburgh, Ms Chu also met with academic and business representatives in the region, including the Carnegie Mellon University, the University of Pittsburgh and companies from the technology, manufacturing, legal and construction sectors. She also visited several tech accelerators and incubators of different focus ranging from Information Technology to robotics and life sciences, to learn about the relevant ecosystem in the region and explore potential collaborations. They included Pittsburgh Life Sciences Greenhouse, Pittsburgh Robotics Network and Pittsburgh Technology Council.

Representatives from Hong Kong Trade Development Council and Invest Hong Kong also joined Ms Chu during her visit to The City of Bridges, where they highlighted the opportunities that Hong Kong offers to US companies in expanding their business into China and other parts of Asia.
