First duty visit to Gateway City

In her first duty visit to St. Louis, Missouri, Director of HKETONY Joanne Chu met with key economic and business executives and discussed cooperation and exchanges between the business sectors of both places. They included Dennis Pruitt, Vice President of Business Development of Missouri Partnership; Time Nowak, Executive Director of World Trade Center St. Louis; and Tom Chulick, President and CEO of St.Louis Regional Chamber. Highlighting Hong Kong's strengths and major advantages in financial services, innovation & technology, Ms Chu encouraged Missouri businesses to make use of Hong Kong as an entry point for opportunities in the Greater Bay Area market. Discussions also explored future collaboration in financial services and biotechnology.

The Director also met with former Governor of Missouri Bob Holden, who now leads the United States Heartland China Association, and briefed him on the latest situation in Hong Kong and learnt more about developments in the heartland region.

Ms Chu also attended the reception and dinner with incoming cohort of the McDonnell international Scholars Academy at Washington University in St. Louis. The academy is an initiative lead by the institution in global education and collaboration with partners from all around the world including three universities in Hong Kong. She met with scholars from Hong Kong to learn about their school life in St. Louis. Ms Chu briefed Kurt Dirks, Vice Chancellor of International Affairs and Director of the McDonnell International Scholars Academy, on the latest development of Hong Kong and efforts of the SAR Government in enhancing academic exchanges between Hong Kong and educational institutions in the US.
