Biotech opportunities abound

Attendees at the 2018 International BIO Convention, the largest annual gathering of biotech professionals in the US, expressed great interest in the new listing opportunities in Hong Kong at a HKETONY-hosted luncheon (Jun 5) in Boston. Michael Chan, Senior Vice President of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing, highlighted how biotech companies can benefit in particular from new listing rules for pre-revenue companies. George Tee, Chief Technology Officer of Hong Kong Science Park (HKSTP), Professor Ken Yung, Vice Chairman of Hong Kong Biotechnology Organisation and Charles Ng, Associate Director-General of Invest Hong Kong, gave an overview on funding support and the evolving biotech landscape.

Director of HKETONY Joanne Chu had a brief chat with Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker on Hong Kong's update during a BIO leadership forum.

Representatives from Chinese University of Hong Kong, Healthcare Technology International, Hong Kong Baptist University, Hong Kong Biotechnology Organisation, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Lee’s Pharmaceutical, participated in the three-day convention at the Hong Kong Pavilion, to showcase their research and to seek partnership with US counterparts in clinical trials and commercialization. These include such areas as therapeutics, diagnostics and wearables, medical robotics and technology transfer.

At a HKETONY-supported roadshow event (Jun 6), organized by HKEX and HKSTP, representatives of several investment and pharmaceutical companies from Hong Kong and the US participated in an investor panel discussion on opportunities in the biotech sector and the new listing rules. The roadshow was held at Loeb House at Harvard University.
