FILMART celebrates 20 years with record attendance

More than 7,300 buyers attended the 20th Hong Kong International Film and TV Market (FILMART).

Celebrating its 20th anniversary, the Hong Kong International Film and TV Market (FILMART) attracted a record of more than 800 exhibitors from 30 countries and regions, including the U.S. More than 7,300 buyers, a 3% year-on-year increase, attended the four-day fair (March 14-17).

Organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, FILMART is recognized as one of the world’s foremost film and TV marketplaces. An important platform for the local entertainment industry to release new productions and announce development strategies, this year’s FILMART featured more than 70 events, including seminars, film launches and networking activities. 

Industry leaders from the realms of film, TV, digital entertainment, post-production, animation and music spoke at the seminars. They included David Uslan, producer of the U.S. animated series Sabrina: Secrets of a Teenage Witch; Shan Dongbing, producer of Expendables; and Doug Mitchell, producer of Mad Max: Fury Road, and they shared their experiences in developing the market for IP productions.

Flagship Entertainment Group, a joint venture between Warner Bros. Entertainment, CMC Holdings and Television Broadcasts Limited, took the opportunity to unveil its company logo along with its inaugural lineup of film projects.

FILMART is one of the founding events of Entertainment Expo Hong Kong, which consists of 10 events covering film, TV, digital entertainment and music, and ran this year from March 14 through April 4.
