Hong Kong action choreographer Yuen Wo-ping was presented with a special lifetime achievement award in the recent Asian Film Awards for his contribution to the martial arts genre for more than 40 years.

At the awards ceremony in Macau on March 17, the best newcomer award was presented to Hong Kong actress Jessie Li for her performance in “Port of Call.”

The film also won best editing. “Monster Hunt,” directed by Hong Kong filmmaker Raman Hui, was the highest-grossing Asian film in 2015.

“The Assassin” dominated the awards, winning eight of the 15 categories, including best film, best director (Hou Hsiao-hsien) and best actress (Shu Qi).

Hong Kong director Johnnie To was the jury president, with actor Sean Lau Ching-wan among the film-industry figures on the panel.

The event, in its 10th edition this year, recognizes cinematic excellence in Asia.
