Commissioner and HKETONY Director's successful visit to Atlanta

Energetic performances from Team Slash, the champion rope skipping team from the Hong Kong Rope Skipping Academy and festive lion dancers kicked off the Chinese New Year reception in Atlanta (Feb 21). Hong Kong Commissioner to the United States Clement Leung highlighted strengthening Hong Kong-US bilateral ties and the city's economic strength, backed by robust external trade, retail sales and tourism.

Earlier in the trip, Commissioner Leung and Director of Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in New York Joanne Chu met with Raphael Bostic, President and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, to update each other on the latest developments in the economy in Hong Kong and the territory covered by the bank. Commissioner Leung briefed Bostic on the latest economic developments in Hong Kong, and they also discussed Hong Kong's housing market, the fintech sector, and trade. Bostic updated CUSA on the capital market, the labor market, the economic disparity between urban and rural areas, and the latest developments in trade policies. Commissioner Leung mentioned the next Asian Financial Forum in 2019 to Bostic, who last visited Hong Kong in Nov 2017, and encouraged him to make another trip.

Commissioner Leung and Director Chu also met with the Chick-fil-A executive team, who briefed the Hong Kong delegation on Chick-fil-A's business model and operation, and the company's latest developments. Mr Leung encouraged the company to consider Hong Kong as a regional base for expansion in the Asian market.
