Spectacular 80 percent growth in Hong Kong-Florida trade in 2014

Hong Kong Commissioner for Economic and Trade Affairs in USA, Mr. Clement Leung highlighted Hong Kong’s recent economic developments and its trade relation with the US during a recent visit to Miami.

Speaking at a Spring Reception hosted by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, New York (HKETONY), Commissioner Leung said 2014 was a great year for Hong Kong’s bilateral relations with the US, noting that Hong Kong imported US$40 billion worth of “Made in America” goods last year and airlines launched new direct flights to three US cities: Seattle, Dallas/Fort Worth and Newark.

Officiating at his first Spring Reception in Miami, Director of Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, New York (HKETONY), Mr. Steve Barclay pointed out that Florida has been a close trade partner of Hong Kong over the years, adding that last year, Hong Kong was the top Asian export destination for the Sunshine State goods. Hong Kong imported US$2.4 billion worth of goods from Florida, registering an 80 per cent jump in value, compared with 2013.

Over 300 guests from Miami’s academic and business sectors attended the reception.

During their visit to Miami, Commissioner Leung, and Mr. Barclay, met with Dr. Thomas J. LeBlanc, Executive Vice President and Provost of University of Miami, and members of the Hong Kong Association in Florida.
