Transpacific cable to boost data connection with United States

The Pacific Light Cable Network will foster closer links between Hong Kong and the U.S.

Google, Facebook and Hong Kong company Pacific Light Data Communication have teamed up to lay an ultrahigh-capacity transpacific data cable, 8,000 miles long, between Hong Kong and Los Angeles.

The Pacific Light Cable Network, on completion in 2018, will have a capacity of 120 terabits per second, enough to accommodate 80 million simultaneous high-definition video calls between the U.S. and Hong Kong. It will become the highest-capacity transpacific route, doubling the capacity of the current record.
