Hong Kong Chief Secretary for Administration Carrie Lam and Vice-Governor of Fujian Province Liang Jianyong co-chaired the second Hong Kong-Fujian Cooperation Conference in Hong Kong on April 15.

Reviewing the progress made in various areas of cooperation and exchange since the last meeting in January 2015, both sides also reached a consensus on strengthening cooperation in the coming years in economy and trade, finance, innovation and technology, youth exchange, and exchanges on cultural and creative industries.

Both sides agreed to leverage the unique advantages of Hong Kong and Fujian enterprises, explore markets in countries and regions along the Belt and Road Initiative and develop multi-destination cruise itineraries that include Hong Kong and Fujian. Both sides planned to encourage more Hong Kong financial service providers to set up businesses in Fujian and encourage more Fujian enterprises to list in Hong Kong.

Riding on the opportunity of Quanzhou in Fujian Province being designated as the first pilot city under the “Made in China 2025” strategy, which aims to promote the upgrading of the mainland China’s manufacturing industry, both sides agreed to promote “re-industrialization” of Hong Kong and upgrade Fujian's manufacturing industry. They also agreed to provide training to cultivate young talents in information technology through the Enriched IT Programme.

Apart from enhancing the sister-school program in both places, Hong Kong and Fujian also agreed to support reciprocal visits and joint study tours to regions along the Maritime Silk Road to promote mutual understanding among youth. There will also be two-way exchanges on arts exhibitions, performances and sports events, and in exhibitions of cultural heritage, food and culture festivals, including the Silk Road International Film Festival.
