Wearable LED technology wins safety award

i-Lume won the Wearable Technologies Innovation World Cup award in the category of Safety & Security.

Hong Kong-based Sentrix Technology’s i-Lume, a wearable LED technology that provides high visibility on a road or pathway, was awarded the top prize in the category of Safety & Security at the WT | Wearable Technologies Innovation World Cup 2015/16, beating out 28 other finalists.

The i-Lume system consists of a high-power, automotive-grade LED that can be permanently integrated into a garment or be removed and changed among garments, gloves, footwear, bags, armbands and other accessories.

Man Wing-lok, general manager of i-Lume, said his research team deployed “eyelet punching” to affix its wearable LED to garments, shortening the time and cost of manufacturing wearable technologies.

The product is currently being used by sportswear and clothing brands for lighting applications in garments meant for running, cycling, hiking, sailing, work and pedestrian safety.
