Science Park named technology incubator of the year

Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks took home multiple prizes at the annual Incubator Awards.

Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) won the 2016 Randall M. Whaley Incubator of the Year award, the highest commendation at the annual Incubator Awards hosted by the International Business Innovation Association, the world-leading organization for advancing business incubation and entrepreneurship.

HKSTP also took home the Dinah Adkins Technology Incubator of the Year Award at the ceremony, held in Orlando, Fla., on April 18.

CEO of HKSTP Allen Ma said the awards reaffirm HKSTP’s commitment to supporting the technology startup scene in Hong Kong, and show that the innovation and technology ecosystem in the city is gaining international recognition.

HKSTP offers three incubation programmes to nurture startups. They focus on developing technology for healthy aging, smart city and robotics, the three strategic areas identified by HKSTP as the most beneficial to Hong Kong’s reindustrialization.

To date, HKSTP has incubated 402 startups, many of which have become local success stories, having won international accolades or expanded overseas. In 2015-16 , the incubatees had attracted US$3.9 million in investment and won more than 60 industry awards or international startup competitions.
