U.S. freight mover Flexport to open regional headquarters

Flexport CEO Ryan Petersen

Hong Kong will be home to the regional headquarters of U.S. freight forwarder Flexport, which hopes to leverage the city’s strategic location to expand in Asia.

Flexport CEO Ryan Petersen said Hong Kong’s established logistics industry, proximity to mainland China and location within five hours from key Asian cities dictated the company’s decision to choose Hong Kong. He noted that the company could move a significant portion of air freight out of southern China through Hong Kong International Airport.

Mr. Peterson added that Hong Kong’s role in Mainland trade will be further strengthened under the Belt and Road Initiative, making it a key international hub and an ideal base for the company’s expansion.

Flexport is a licensed customs brokerage and freight forwarder that offers an online system for clients to manage their international trade. Backed by Founders Fund, Google Ventures, Bloomberg Beta, Y Combinator and more, the company provides services that include air freight, ocean freight, trucking, warehousing and fulfillment, customs brokerage and cargo insurance.
