Hong Kong in position to work with ASEAN projects

Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Gregory So (standing, second from left) speaks at the 13th ASEAN Leadership Forum in Laos.

Hong Kong is well-placed to partner with Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries on projects in the Belt and Road Initiative, said Hong Kong Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Gregory So.

Speaking at the 13th ASEAN Leadership Forum on August 7, Mr. So highlighted Hong Kong’s advantages under the “One Country, Two Systems” framework and the city’s world-class infrastructure. He also noted Hong Kong’s abundance of talents and professionals, from engineers and designers to financiers and project consulting experts, which will be invaluable to expanding ASEAN businesses.

The signing of the forthcoming Hong Kong, China – ASEAN Free Trade Agreement, coupled with the Mainland and Hong Kong Closer Economic Partnership Agreement, will facilitate trade and investment between Hong Kong and ASEAN countries, said Mr. So. It will also further Hong Kong’s efforts to maintain its status as a hub for international trade and investment.
