Secretary for Justice promotes mediation, Shanghai relations

Mr. Yuen (left) meets with the Deputy Director Wang Xie of the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Justice (right) to discuss matters of mutual interest, including legal cooperation between Hong Kong and Shanghai.

Secretary for Justice Rimsky Yuen said the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government is committed to promoting Hong Kong as a center for international legal and dispute-resolution services.

Delivering his keynote speech on “The Past and Future Development of Mediation: The Hong Kong Experience” at the third Shanghai-Hong Kong Commercial Mediation Forum on March 17, Mr. Yuen said that organizations in Hong Kong and Shanghai could combine strengths to provide more professional and specialized services. They also could seize opportunities arising from national and global developments.

During his visit to Shanghai, Mr. Yuen met with Vice-Chairman Xu Yibo of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference Shanghai Committee to discuss cooperation between the cities. Mr. Yuen also met with Deputy Director Wang Xie of the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Justice to discuss legal cooperation between Hong Kong and Shanghai.
