Yangge dancers attempt to set Guiness World Record

Featuring more than 1,000 dancers, the "Hong Kong in Motion, Yangge in Energy" event was held at Hong Kong's Kowloon waterfront on March 6.

More than 1,000 women and girls gathered in Hong Kong to perform a mass Yangge, a Chinese folk dance that combines music, props and physical feats, to challenge a Guinness World Record.

The "Hong Kong in Motion, Yangge in Energy" event was held at the Kowloon waterfront on March 6.

It was still pending on whether a world record for the largest number of people dancing the Yangge had been set. The current record was set in June 2013 by 372 dancers in Changchun, Jilin Province.
