Director Steve Barclay of Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in New York (HKETONY) met with government and business leaders during his visit to several New England states in mid-September, making stops in Boston; Hanover, N.H.; Montpelier, Vt.; Burlington, Vt.; and Portland, Maine.

In the meetings, Mr. Barclay discussed Hong Kong’s advantages and the city’s latest developments.

Among the officials he met were Commissioner Jeffrey Rose of New Hampshire’s Department of Resources and Economic Development, Northeast Regional Director James Cox of the U.S. Department of Commerce, Commissioner Joan Goldstein of Vermont’s Department of Economic Development and Director Susan Murray of the Export Assistance Center of the U.S. Department of Commerce in Montpelier.

Mr. Barclay also spoke at the Maine International Trade Center, highlighting Hong Kong’s unique status under the “One Country, Two Systems” principle, the city’s role as a “super-connector” between mainland China and the rest of the world, and the opportunities for Maine businesses.

He also met with Hong Kong students who are studying in the New England region on Hong Kong government scholarships.
