FinTech Week to spotlight Hong Kong's resources

Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury K.C. Chan says Hong Kong is an ideal platform for fintech startups.

Invest Hong Kong (InvestHK) will organize the city’s first FinTech Week from November 7 to 11.

As part of a plan to transform Hong Kong into a premier center for fintech companies and startups in Asia, Fintech Week will spotlight the latest developments in financial technology through pitch sessions, demos, workshops and networking events.

Speaking at the launch ceremony, Hong Kong Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury K.C. Chan said Hong Kong is an ideal platform for startups and existing financial institutions to develop and apply fintech for various markets in the region and globally. He added that the creation of a dedicated fintech team reflected the government’s continued support for the city’s fintech sector and its promotion of Hong Kong as a fintech hub.

InvestHK also announced the establishment of its dedicated fintech team, which will assist startups, investors and R&D institutions from around the world in establishing a presence or expanding in Hong Kong.

The new Hong Kong Fintech campaign logo, website and branding were also unveiled at the launch event, signifying the vast opportunities for fintech development provided by Hong Kong’s extensive nexus for growth.

HKMA launches two new fintech initiatives

Hong Kong Fintech unveiled this new logo.

Hong Kong Monetary Authority will launch two fintech initiatives, the Fintech Innovation Hub and the Fintech Supervisory Sandbox, to help Hong Kong enhance the quality of its fintech services, increase the city’s competitiveness in this sector and gain more opportunities arising from China’s “Belt and Road” strategy and fintech innovations.

Hong Kong’s financial sector should also enhance credibility and win the trust of customers, and the public and private sectors can join hands to accomplish these missions.
