HKETONY celebrates closer ties with Massachusetts

Acting Director of HKETONY Paul Cheung highlighted the closer ties between Hong Kong and Massachusetts in a briefing session at the Boston Bar Association on May 13.

Acting Director of Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office New York (HKETONY), Paul Cheung, highlighted the territory’s closer ties with Massachusetts in a briefing session at the Boston Bar Association on May 13.

Mr. Cheung said Massachusetts exported US$1.8 billion worth of goods to Hong Kong last year, representing a growth of nearly 150% compared to 2012, adding that many Massachusetts companies, such as State Street, Liberty Mutual and Fidelity, have chosen Hong Kong for their regional operations. Last December, Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick led a trade mission, comprising government and industry leaders, to Hong Kong to further build relations and partnerships.

Mr. Cheung also gave an update on the latest developments in Hong Kong, including its strengths and experience as an international arbitration center. He encouraged Boston and Massachusetts businesses and law firms to explore opportunities in Hong Kong.

To celebrate the closer ties with the Bay State, Mr. Cheung said HKETONY will host "Hong Kong Celebrates Massachusetts 2014" (logo on right) in June to showcase the growing business and cultural ties as well as Hong Kong’s creativity, entrepreneurship, and cultural and economic vitality. The celebrations are held in partnership with Hong Kong Trade Development Council, Hong Kong Tourism Board, Cathay Pacific Airways, Hong Kong Association of Massachusetts, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston,  Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival and Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival in Boston.
