Commissioner visits Indiana and Kentucky, highlights Hong Kong's strengths
Hong Kong Commissioner for Economic and Trade Affairs, USA Donald Tong encouraged local businesses in Kentucky and Indiana to leverage Hong Kong’s strengths to gain access to markets in mainland China and Asia.
Speaking at respective luncheons hosted by the Frankfort, Ky., Chamber of Commerce on October 18 and by the Greater Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce on October 19, Mr. Tong highlighted Hong Kong’s pre-eminent role as a financial and business hub and provided updates on the latest economic developments in the territory.
The commissioner pointed out developments in Hong Kong’s four key economic pillars — financial services, trading and logistics, professional services and tourism. He also spoke about new growth areas of testing and certification, medical services, innovation and technology, cultural and creative industries, environmental industry, and educational services that may present unique opportunities for businesses in the two states.
During his visit to Indiana, Mr. Tong called on Governor Mitch Daniels and met with Indianapolis Mayor Gregory A. Ballard.

In Kentucky, Mr. Tong met with Deputy Commissioner for Business Development of Kentucky State Cabinet for Economic Development Joe Kelly, and the President Pro-Tem of Kentucky Senate, Senator Katie Stine. The Commissioner also spoke at Georgetown College and held a breakfast talk with members of the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce.
