Commissioner promotes Hong Kong to Tennessee businesses
Citing its strengths as an international air, sea and logistics hub, Hong Kong Commissioner for Economic and Trade Affairs, USA Donald Tong said Hong Kong was the natural choice for U.S. and Tennessee companies seeking to access growing mainland China and Asian markets.

As the 18th largest destination for Tennessee exports, Hong Kong imported US$333 million worth of goods from Tennessee in 2010, an increase of 15% over 2009. Major imports were chemical products, computers and electronics.

Hong Kong Mortgage Corporation records 22.7% increase in after-tax profits
The Hong Kong Mortgage Corporation (HKMC) announced the highlights of its financial results and business performance in 2010 on April 12.

HKMC recorded a 22.7% increase in after-tax profit to US$158.2 million in 2010, with a return on shareholders' equity (ROE) of 17.5%. The ROE in 2009 was 16.2%. The increase in profits and ROE was mainly attributable to the favorable interest rate environment, excellent loan performance, prudent business development strategy and a strong commitment to risk management.

125 scholars accepted into Ph.D. fellowship program
One hundred and twenty-five elite candidates from 19 countries and regions have accepted offers in the second round of a Ph.D. fellowship program in Hong Kong, according to the Research Grants Council (RGC) of Hong Kong.

Among these awardees in the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme 2011/12, 31 (24.8%) candidates are from other countries and regions, including 11 (8.8%) from Europe, 14 (11.2%) from Asian countries other than Mainland China and Hong Kong, and six (4.8%) from the Americas. Eighty-two (65.6%) are from the Mainland, and 12 (9.6%) from Hong Kong.
