Hong Kong, Guangdong sign cooperation pact
Hong Kong Chief Executive Donald Tsang and Guangdong Gov. Huang Huahua signed the Framework Agreement on Hong Kong-Guangdong Cooperation in Beijing’s Great Hall of the People on April 7. China’s State Vice President Xi Jinping, State Councillor Liu Yandong and Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and Director of Hong Kong Macao Affairs Office of the State Council Liao Hui witnessed the signing ceremony.

Brand Hong Kong revitalized
Brand Hong Kong (BrandHK), a communications platform launched in 2001 to promote the city, has been reviewed and revitalized, with minor changes to its message and also to its dragon logo.

Hong Kong, Taiwan forged closer ties
Hong Kong Chief Executive Donald Tsang formally established the Hong Kong-Taiwan Economic and Cultural Cooperation and Promotion Council (ECCPC) on April 1. In doing so, the Chief Executive appointed a number of key members to the council: Financial Secretary John C. Tsang as honorary chairman, Charles Lee as chairman, Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Stephen Lam as executive vice chairman and Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Rita Lau and Secretary for Home Affairs Tsang Tak-sing as vice chairmen.

2012 electoral methods mooted
The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government recently published a package of proposals on the methods for selecting the Chief Executive and for forming the Legislative Council in 2012, setting out detailed proposals for the two electoral methods and summarizing the views collected during the three-month public consultation.

Court of Final Appeal Chief Justice appointed
Hong Kong Chief Executive Donald Tsang accepted the recommendation of the Judicial Officers Recommendation Commission (JORC) on the appointment of the Honorable Mr. Geoffrey Ma (Mr. Justice Ma), Chief Judge of the High Court, as the Chief Justice of the Court of Final Appeal with effect from September 1.

Corporates to disclose price-sensitive information
Hong Kong Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury K. C. Chan announced in March a proposal to require listed corporations to disclose price-sensitive information (PSI) in a timely manner to facilitate investors in making informed investment decisions.

Commissioner promotes Hong Kong in Virginia
The prospect of marketing Virginia wines in Hong Kong was the main focus of discussions with Virginia state officials during Hong Kong Commissioner for Economic and Trade Affairs, USA Donald Tong’s visit to Richmond on March 18.

Hong Kong moves forward as regional education hub
The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government (HKSARG) hopes to further enhance Hong Kong’s position as a regional education hub and to bring about greater internationalization and diversification of the higher education sector, said Secretary for Education Michael Suen.
