New director on board
Anita Chan took the helm as director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, New York on July 21. She succeeds Monica Chen, who has ended her tenure and is returning to Hong Kong to take on a new assignment. Ms. Chan joined the Hong Kong government as a simultaneous interpreter after obtaining her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Hong Kong.

Director rings NYSE closing bell
Not a listed company, not an IPO, it was an unusual gang at the closing bell ceremony at the New York Stock Exchange. Director of Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, New York, Anita Chan, joined members of the organizing committee of the Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival in New York (HKDBF-NY), to ring the closing bell at the New York Stock Exchange on July 30, commemorating the 20th anniversary of the HKDBF-NY.

Hong Kong ranks 4th-largest global FDI recipient
Hong Kong was the world’s fourth-largest Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) recipient in 2009, according to the World Investment Report 2010 (WIR) released by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) on July 23.

Number of registered companies hits record
The number of companies registered under the Companies Ordinance has reached a record high. The total number of live local companies registered was 815,762 at the end of June this year, up 43,509 from the number at the end of 2009, according to statistics released by the Companies Registry on July 11.

Secretary for Justice: Hong Kong law firms capable of mainland issues
Hong Kong Secretary for Justice Wong Yan Lung, SC, said that the legal profession in the territory, being well versed in laws relating to international finance and trade and having a comprehensive international network, was capable of providing international and high-end legal services.

Hong Kong – the region's most economical broadband provider
Hong Kong provides the most economical local broadband access services in the Asia Pacific region, according to a study report released by the Asia Pacific Carriers’ Coalition (APCC) affirming Hong Kong’s position as the premier telecommunications hub in the region.

LegCo passes Companies (Amendment) Bill 2010
Hong Kong Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Professor K. C. Chan, welcomed the passage of the Companies (Amendment) Bill 2010 by the Hong Kong Legislative Council on July 7.
