Hong Kong ranked world's freest economy for 17th consecutive year
Hong Kong is ranked the world's freest economy for the 17th consecutive year in the 2011 Index of Economic Freedom, which is jointly published by The Heritage Foundation and The Wall Street Journal.

Hong Kong Commissioner to the United States Donald Tong welcomed the release of the index, saying, "I am thrilled to learn that the Heritage Foundation and The Wall Street Journal have once again ranked Hong Kong the world's freest economy.

InvestHK surpasses its goals for tenth consecutive year
Invest Hong Kong (InvestHK) assisted 284 overseas and mainland China companies to set up or expand in Hong Kong in 2010.

This was the 10th consecutive year that the department beat its annual target for the number of completed projects. Together, these companies created 3,056 jobs in their first year of operation or expansion.

Hong Kong Customs strengthens cooperation with U.S. Commission
Hong Kong Customs and the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission pledged to strengthen cooperation in providing consumers with greater protection against unsafe products by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on consumer product safety.

The Commissioner of Hong Kong Customs and Excise, Richard Yuen, and the Chairman of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Inez Moore Tenenbaum, signed the MOU during a ceremony in Hong Kong on January 11.

Louisiana invited to expand exports to Hong Kong
With exports to Hong Kong up 15% during the January-to-September period last year, Louisiana businesses and companies are encouraged to continue looking to Hong Kong for growth opportunities in 2011, said Anita Chan, director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office New York.

Speaking at a January 20 luncheon event co-hosted by the World Trade Center of New Orleans, Ms. Chan also pointed out that Louisiana's total exports to Hong Kong in 2009 reached US$65 million, with chemical manufacturing, food manufacturing and primary metal manufacturing being the top three exports from the state to Hong Kong.
