Innovation Circle reflects Shenzhen/ Hong Kong strong R&D support

According to Hong Kong Commissioner for Innovation and Technology Janet Wong, the March conclusion of a three-year action plan under the “Shenzhen/Hong Kong Innovation Circle” clearly demonstrates the staunch support given to the cooperation arrangement by the research and development sectors in both places.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Shenzhen-HK Innovation Circle Pavilion on November 16, Miss Wong said the action plan comprised 24 cooperation projects covering such fields as biomedical, integrated circuit, radio frequency identification (RFID) technology, solar energy and industrial design, with cooperating units coming from government departments, universities, R&D institutions and community organizations from both sides.

She said that as the first major technology project established in Hong Kong and Shenzhen under the Innovation Circle, DuPont set up its global photovoltaic solar energy business headquarters and R&D center in Hong Kong in March; its manufacturing facilities in Guangming, Shenzhen, opened this month.

“Both places will continue to work on this cooperative model to attract more overseas enterprises to come to Hong Kong and Shenzhen.  We will make use of the world-class R&D advantages in Hong Kong and Shenzhen to promote cooperation between the two places and the world,” Miss Wong added.

An exhibition at the Innovation Circle Pavilion reviews the significant milestones of the cooperation arrangement and showcases its results, with the goal of enhancing public understanding of the latest project developments.

Also on display are Hong Kong’s innovative and technological capabilities and achievements. The Hong Kong pavilion was jointly organized by the Innovation and Technology Commission and Hong Kong Trade Development Council.
