Hong Kong Observatory Web site gets face-lift

The Hong Kong Observatory launched a more user-friendly front page of its Web site July 28.  The revamped page carries the most popular weather information on one screen, and a tool bar has replaced hyperlinks to other Web pages with a pop-up drop-down menu for easy access.

Since the launch of the Observatory’s Web sites ([www.hko.gov.hk] and [www.weather.gov.hk]) in 1996, the number of page visits has increased rapidly at an average rate of 56% per year.  In 2008, the number of page visits topped 1.3 billion and there were as many as 15 million visits on a single day during severe weather.  The revamping exercise is another step that the Observatory has made to meet public demand.
