Hong Kong Chief Executive Donald Tsang officiated at the opening ceremony of the DuPont Apollo Global Thin Film Photovoltaic Business Headquarters and Research and Development (R&D) Centre and the Hong Kong Science Park Solar Energy Technology Support Centre at Hong Kong Science Park on March 20.
The center is part of the first major technology cooperation project of the Shenzhen Hong Kong Innovation Circle — a joint governmental collaboration venture with DuPont. The purpose of the center is to establish a solar energy research and industrial platform.
Mr. Tsang welcomed DuPont’s commitment to the joint venture with a local partner. DuPont Apollo is a DuPont subsidiary focused on thin film photovoltaic technology.
After the ceremony, Mr. Tsang toured the advanced facilities in the R&D laboratory and pilot line. He also was briefed by the technical staff on the manufacturing process of the thin film photovoltaic modules.
Joining the tour were Shenzhen Mayor Xu Zongheng; Chairman of Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Nicholas Brooke; DuPont Chairman of the Board Charles Holliday; and DuPont Apollo Chief Executive Officer David Chu.
Other ceremony officiants included Hong Kong Financial Secretary John C. Tsang; Hong Kong Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Rita Lau; Hong Kong Secretary for the Environment Edward Yau; Shenzhen Secretary-General Li Ping; Shenzhen Deputy Secretary-General Gao Guohui; Shenzhen Science and Technology Adviser Liu Yingli; DuPont Executive Vice President and Chief Innovation Officer Thomas M. Connelly; and DuPont-Greater China President and Corporate Vice President Douglas W. Muzyka.
