The United States Equestrian Team Foundation held a benefit, themed “Hong Kong by Night,” on February 8 at the International Polo Club in Wellington, Fla., raising US$500,000.
Proceeds from the evening will benefit the U.S. equestrian teams competing in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
The sold-out event drew 430 guests, including equestrian athletes, supporters and friends. With the equestrian competition at the 29th Olympiad to be held in Hong Kong this summer, themes of the host city pervaded the party.
Guests were invited to dress in “festive oriental attire,” and extraordinary, Hong Kong-themed decor transformed the venue into a showcase of the city’s highlights: an impressive entry lined in towering live bamboo, a dining room replete with “starlit” drapery and a spectacular backlit skyline mural of the city.
Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in New York Monica Chen and Manager of the Hong Kong Tourism Board Michael Lim both attended the event and gave a brief presentation on Hong Kong and the 2008 Olympics Equestrian Events at the benefit.
