Chicago seminar to highlight business opportunities in Hong Kong and Zhaoqing

U.S. companies interested in learning about business opportunities in Hong Kong and Zhaoqing (in Guangdong Province) can find out more information at a complimentary seminar June 9 in Chicago.

The seminar will be held at the Palmer House Hilton and is jointly organized by Invest Hong Kong, the investment promotion agency of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and The People’s Government of Zhaoqing Municipality.

During the seminar, U.S. companies can learn how to benefit from establishing their headquarters in Hong Kong and making use of this strategic location to oversee their manufacturing facilities and sales operations in the Greater Pearl River Delta Region.

The seminar also offers the chance to network with government officials from Hong Kong and Zhaoqing as well as talk to others from Chicago-based companies considering expanding into the Chinese market.

Key speakers scheduled for the seminar include Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in New York Monica Chen; Director General of Invest Hong Kong Mike Rowse; Mayor of the Municipal Government of Zhaoqing Yang Haoming; and Vice Chair of the U.S.-China Business Association Colin Wu.

The seminar will include case studies and speakers.  Gary Clinton, who recently retired as managing director and head of global relationship banking of Asia Pacific at Citigroup, will give tips in doing business in Hong Kong and China. Peter Chen, partner of Deloitte Tax, will look at finance and taxation issues of U.S. companies interested in setting up business in Hong Kong and Zhaoqing. Richard Tam, director of the Chicago office of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, will present the trade development council’s services that U.S. companies can use to maximize their China business. Legal experts also will talk about legal and regulatory issues of U.S. companies interested in setting up in Hong Kong and Zhaoqing. There also will be a question-and-answer session.

Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festivals to be held in Miami and Boston

Dragon boat races will be held in Miami and Boston.

The 5th Annual Miami Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival will be held May 31 at Brickell Key in Miami, with some 25,000 spectators expected at this year’s event. Races will be held between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the festival will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission to the festival is free. The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, New York is the special founder sponsor of the event. The 29th Annual Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival of Boston will be held on June 8 on the Charles River in Boston from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission to the festival is free.
