HKETONY hosts spring receptions, celebrates Year of the Pig

The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in New York (HKETONY) hosted its annual spring reception for about 330 guests on February 27 at the Waldorf=Astoria Hotel in New York.

Speaking at the reception, Hong Kong Commissioner to the USA Margaret Fong said the new year began with welcome news for Hong Kong.

“Just last month, the Heritage Foundation and the Wall Street Journal ranked Hong Kong the freest economy for the 13th consecutive year,” she said. “The auspicious start bodes well as we look forward to the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region on July 1 this year.”

Hong Kong Commissioner to the USA Margaret Fong welcomed guests to the spring reception hosted by the Hong Kong Economic & Trade Office, New York at Woodruff Arts Center in Atlanta on March 2.

Miss Fong also pointed out that Hong Kong’s stock exchange raised more than US$42 billion in IPOs last year, placing the exchange second behind London. At the end of the year, total market capitalization of Hong Kong’s stock market was over US$1.7 trillion, making the territory the second largest stock market in Asia.

The HKETONY also hosted spring receptions in Chicago (February 23) and Atlanta (March 2) for business, academic and media contacts of the office.

The lion dance troupe was on hand at the Atlanta spring reception to welcome the new year.
