Hong Kong official visits Arkansas

Hong Kong Commissioner for Economic and Trade Affairs, USA Margaret Fong visited Arkansas in mid-January and met with government officials and business leaders in the state.           

In her first official visit to the state, Miss Fong met with Arkansas Governor Mike Beebe and Lieutenant Governor Bill Halter. During her meeting with Governor Beebe in Little Rock, Miss Fong gave an update on developments in Hong Kong. She exchanged views with the governor on trade relations between Hong Kong and Arkansas and discussed areas of collaborations.           

Miss Fong also met with U.S. Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor, as well as Arkansas’ economic and trade officials.

Speaking at a business luncheon hosted by the Little Rock Regional Chamber of Commerce, Miss Fong briefed the audience on the latest developments in Hong Kong and the role of Hong Kong as a gateway to China.           

During her visit to Little Rock, Miss Fong also spoke at the University of Arkansas’ Clinton School of Public Service on “Hong Kong-US: Partners in Trade and Beyond.”  Addressing some 110 people at the school, Miss Fong spoke on the close partnership between Hong Kong and the U.S., particularly in areas such as trade and economics and port security.            

Miss Fong also visited Bentonville during her three-day visit to the state, where she met with officials at Wal-Mart’s corporate headquarters and spoke at a breakfast event hosted by the Arkansas World Trade Center.
